Back in February, I announced my intent to embark on the journey to becoming a Commissioned Officer for the Army National Guard. Three months of Pre-OCS has passed and this Friday, June 5, I leave my family, friends, and my businesses behind to begin two weeks of Officer Candidate School in Salina, KS.

ocslogoAlthough it is only 16 days of training, I have a feeling this will be the most challenging thing I have every attempted to do. Everything I have been told about OCS is that it is like Basic Training on steroids. Not only will we be in a Basic Training-like environment, but we will also be expected to demonstrate leadership skills by fulfilling set leadership roles while we are there. Every role from squad leader to company commander will be fulfilled by officer candidates on a 24 hour rotation. There will be lots of mistakes and lots of pain as a result of those mistakes. But one thing is for sure – we will be better for it once it is all said and done.

Phase 1 of OCS consists of completing a 5-mile ruck march, a map reading exam, day and night land navigation, and an ATMS exam (my understanding is this is a Army Training and Leadership Development exam). These events will be conducted while we are already physically, mentally and emotionally exhausted in order to test our true abilities, perseverance, and character. I have heard a lot of people fail out due to land navigation, others get hurt and so get sent home, and still others opt to leave the OCS program altogether. My intent is to simply keep putting one foot in front of the other and bear with whatever they throw at me and reward myself handsomely when I return home. 😛

For those of you who are my customers, here is what to expect:

AngelComputing – For the week of June 1-June 5, I will not be taking any NEW computer work. I will likely be in and out of my office quite a bit so if you call, please leave a message and I will get back to you as soon as possible. I still have a lot of preparations to make before I leave on the 5th. If you need support/virus removals/repairs and can wait until after June 21st, please email me and I will get back with you once I return. You will receive first priority over other incoming work at that time and a 10% discount for the inconvenience of waiting. But you MUST email me to get this discount.

Angela’s Crafts – My regular customers may have noticed that I have not been at Farmer’s Market this year. That is because I have been busy getting in better shape and preparing for OCS. I plan to resume selling at Farmer’s Market July 4th. Mention this post to receive a special discount offer! In the meantime, if you need anything, you can find my products at Pizaacos located on south Main Street in Hutch, at Parkside across from Avenue A park.

Fit. Strong. Lean. – You can continue to purchase your Shakeology and other Beachbody products through the Team Beachbody Website.  For my local customers, please note there will be NO FIT CLUB on June 9 or June 16. My intent is to resume classes on June 23. If that changes, I will let you know via the FB Group and the Meetup group.
